In loving memory...
The New Hope Baptist Church family mourns the passing of Mrs. B. J. Wells, who faithfully served as the executive assistant to Pastor Jerry Young for over 40 years. A pillar of dedication and devotion to Christ and His church, Mrs. Wells retired from full-time service in 2023 but continued to assist the Pastor whenever called upon.
Mrs. Wells was deeply involved in the Music Ministry, singing in the Sanctuary Choir and One Accord, a musical group that accompanied Pastor Young when he preached at other churches. She played a vital role in bringing his vision of ministry to life, serving on countless church committees and contributing significantly to the development and implementation of the comprehensive budget approach under Pastor Young’s leadership.
Her service extended beyond New Hope. She worked alongside Pastor Young at the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi for 12 years, organizing logistics for the annual convention meetings and assisting him in creating documents, presentations, and programs. When Pastor Young was elected as the 18th President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. in 2014, Mrs. Wells followed him to the national level, collaborating with the Office of Convention Meetings and Planning for all annual gatherings.
Mrs. Wells’ impact on New Hope Baptist Church, New Hope Christian School, the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, and the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. will never be forgotten. Her legacy will live on in the ministries she helped shape and the countless lives she touched.
Her colleagues and friends will always remember her infectious smile, impeccable fashion sense, daily need for a Snickers and Coca-Cola, love for the latest technology, and, most importantly, her unwavering dedication to Pastor Young, New Hope Baptist Church, and the cause of Christ.
She has fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).
We thank God for the life, service, and love of Mrs. B. J. Wells.
